Manchester United predicted line-up vs Leicester as Marcus Rashford and Casemiro start

Manchester United will be going in search of a third successive victory when they travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on Thursday evening.

United, who were beaten 4-2 on their last visit to this particular corner of the Midlands, will be aiming to build on Saturday's hard-fought 1-0 win over Southampton. Bruno Fernandes netted the only goal of the game, meaning Erik ten Hag's side followed up their 2-1 triumph over Liverpool with another maximum points haul.

While the victory over Liverpool was secured as a result of a free-flowing, outstanding performance, the win over the Saints required United to show a different side to themselves, having to dig in deep and take the game by the scruff of the neck. They survived a barrage of late attacks, with the likes of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez playing their part in earning a rare away clean sheet.
Having named the same side that defeated Liverpool against the Saints, it is possible that Ten Hag could do the same against the Foxes. David de Gea will continue between the sticks, as he aims to record back-to-back clean sheets for the first time since December last year.

Ahead of him, Ten Hag is unlikely to tinker with his back-four, with it having come together and shown so much promise in the last two matches. That means that, from right to left, Diogo Dalot, Varane, Martinez and Tyrell Malacia should all start once again.

It is in midfield where Ten Hag is presented with his biggest headache, as he could find himself tempted to give Casemiro his first start in United colours. He stepped off the bench in the closing stages at St Mary's and will now be knocking on the door for a start, which is highly likely after the £60million United have invested in his signature.

He is likely to be joined in the midfield-three by Christian Eriksen and Fernandes, with the latter the most advanced of the trio. It means that Scott McTominay will drop to the bench.

Ten Hag is, however, likely to stick with the same front-three that has started the last two matches, with Anthony Elanga, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho spearheading the attack. It remains to be seen if Cristiano Ronaldo will be in the matchday squad, given the fact that Thursday is transfer deadline day and uncertainty continues to surround his future.

But if he is to stay at Old Trafford and be included in the 20-strong matchday squad he is unlikely to start. Ten Hag favours a fluid front-three and Elanga, Rashford and Sancho offer him that trait.

Cristiano Ronaldo accepts he's at Manchester United until at least January, says Erik ten Hag

Cristiano Ronaldo facing prospect of staying at Man Utd until at least the re-opening of transfer window in January but manager Erik ten Hag adamant he and the forward are on the same page and he would not stay at Old Trafford if he did not want to

Erik ten Hag says Cristiano Ronaldo would not remain at Manchester United until at least January if he did not want to.

With Thursday's transfer deadline looming, Ronaldo's efforts to leave United in search of Champions League football are nearing a fruitless end, and he faces another five months in Manchester before the re-opening of the window may present an opportunity to move.

Questioned if he had spoken to Ronaldo, United boss Ten Hag said: "Several times, yes. We are on the same page. [He is happy to stay] otherwise he wouldn't be here.",

NEWSJürgen Klopp reveals Jordan Henderson injury concern

Liverpool will need to assess the hamstring injury that forced Jordan Henderson from the field in Wednesday's dramatic 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.

The captain was withdrawn after 71 minutes at Anfield and Jürgen Klopp confirmed afterwards it was due to a fitness concern.

Asked during his post-match press conference if the Reds were likely to conduct any business ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline, the boss said: "I don't think so, but as long as there is time we should not close the door completely.

"Obviously Hendo is injured, he got a hamstring [injury], which is absolutely not helpful. I don't think so."

He added: "[It was] that serious that he couldn't carry on, so it was no tactical change."

Liverpool transfer round-up: Bids launched for two players as midfield duo ruled out

Liverpool transfer round-up: Bids launched for two players as midfield duo ruled out

Liverpool are desperately attempting to identify the right midfielder to bring in in the final few hours of the transfer window, with a host of names lined up on deadline day

Liverpool are set on signing a new midfielder in the final few hours of the summer transfer window following a number of injuries to their options in those positions, leaving Jurgen Klopp’s side very short on strength in depth.

According to the latest reports, a bid has now been ‘lodged’ for Moises Caicedo, while another is said to have been ‘made’ for Douglas Luiz as the Reds target their Premier League rivals. Elsewhere, two targets from Europe have now been ruled out of a move as the clock ticks down.

Reds ‘lodge’ £42m bid for Caicedo

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Brighton star in recent weeks but it has been made clear by Seagulls boss Graham Potter that no bid will be enough to convince the club into selling the 20-year-old this summer.

However, the Reds appear to have ignored those warnings, with The Sun reporting that they are ready to launch a £42million bid for the Ecuadorian international, even if it will almost certainly be rebuffed immediately by the Seagulls, who are under no pressure to sell.

Klopp is after another addition to his long list of midfielders following injuries to a number of them already this season, and Caicedo is backed to be a long-term signing and one who can help to be part of the next generation of players for the future.

Who will Liverpool sign before the transfer window closes? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Liverpool eye Douglas Luiz

With time at a premium and Liverpool running out of options, the Reds appear to be strategically targeting players who are already in the country and recent reports have revealed that a shock bid has been submitted for Aston Villa’s Brazilian midfielder.

According to Torcedores, the Reds have offered £20m for Luiz as they look to ease their midfield woes ahead of the transfer deadline. It is claimed the former Manchester City player is keen on changing clubs.

However, Villa are expected to hold out for an increased fee, which is in line with their reported €35m (£30m) asking price from earlier in the summer, should they allow Luiz to leave. This means Liverpool will have to rethink their offer if they are serious

Manchester City 'agree £17m deal to sign Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund'

The 27-year-old will join the Premier League champions for an initial £15million fee with a further £1.7million in add-ons, according to Sky Sports .

Akanji is believed to be undergoing a medical at City, and is expected to be announced as the club's fifth new arrival of the transfer window in the coming days.

The move comes as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his options in the centre of defence with Aymeric Laporte still on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery at the end of last season

Arsenal news and transfers recap Danilo £20m bid, Gakpo 'agreed', Tielemans £19m offer

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed the Gunners' plans for the Transfer Deadline Day amid issues in midfield and out wide.

Speaking after his side's 2-1 home win over Aston Villa, a victory that made it five in a row ahead of the Man United test at the weekend, the Spaniard informed the media in his post-match press conference: "Obviously it has an impact because Thomas is injured as well and we’re a bit short in that position. We have players like Sambi, we have players like Granit who can play there. The club has been super supportive to keep improving the squad and the team as we can and if the right player is available and we can do it we will try."

What Arteta said on , Elneny and Partey injuries and Odegaard fitness and return date

The Gunners boss spoke to the press after his side's 2-1 win victory over Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium

You must be happy with the start to the season?

We are really happy because we are winning football matches that we deserve to win the way we are performing and playing. We need to continue. As I always said, I think there are a lot of things that we can improve, and you could see that in the second half. But the way we played in the first half - the amount of chances, how dominant we were, the energy that we played with - is really pleasing as a coach. Go to the next one.

That’s the third game Arsenal have scored really quickly after conceding. Is that something you wanted to address after last season - How they (the players) respond?

That’s the mentality we want to show as a team and the character we want to show: to react immediately. The disappointment (of) conceding goals is part of the game, like giving the ball away or having a bad action. It’s about the next action, the next phase and again when you play in front of this crowd, that helps. The energy they generate is just amazing.

With mindset, you’ve mentioned belief before. What actually gives players that belief when they concede?

Going through positive experiences and overcoming difficulties. It gives you the confidence that you can do it. That can be individually or as a team, and when you start to get that belief and create those moments, it’s not only us (players and staff) that believes, the crowd believes. When that connection happens, anything is possible.

Do you use Arsenal's previous reputation for panicking after conceding to help with that?

We try to improve our players, and we have to try to improve the team. There are many things which are not just technical and tactical aspects which play a big part in football matches. That's another tool that we are developing, and we need to keep developing. Especially when we are here, that is really powerful.

Do the team need to be more ruthless?

It's the most difficult thing in football to score goals, but to be fair today, we had some big, big, big chances that we didn't put away. Obviously, the intention is to score. I think Gabi Martinelli's goal is a really difficult technique: the height of the ball, the angle he's getting, the way he is approaching the ball, and he still managed to hit the target always gives you a chance. We are always working on it, and I think we are getting much better at it. As always, there is room for improvement.

Was Martin OK because he had some ice on his ankle?

Yeah, he got a bad kick, as you could see, and he was struggling.

Any worries for United for him?

I don't know, he was struggling, it's very recent, so we will have to see how he recovers in the next few hours.

Is there any update on Mohamed Elneny's injury and how long he'll be out?

That's not good news. We still need to see another specialist, but I'm afraid that we're gonna lose Mo for a while.

Does that impact your plans on deadline day, and are you expecting to do anything?

Obviously, it has an impact because Thomas is injured as well, and we're a bit short in that position. We have players like Sambi, we have players like Granit who can play there. The club has been super supportive to keep improving the squad and the team as we can, and if the right player is available and we can do it we will try.

Is there much money left in the bank?

I'm not a financial guy. It's a question for somebody else.

Is Ramsdale OK?

I think he felt something. I don't know exactly what it is, but he managed to finish the game. It's another one who we'll have to assess.

Will Partey be out for a while?

He's going to be out for a while. I don't know how long that period is going to be. It's not the first injury he had in that area, so the recovery is more for the doctors to put the timeline and see how he evolves.

Will this impact your strategy with the last day of the window coming up?

Well, we were pretty protected in that position, and now we are more exposed. We have to be prepared for uncertainties, injuries and suspensions. Things like that can happen, especially this season which is going to be really strange with the World Cup. We try to protect from that, but it's not easy.

Is Tomiyasu getting back to his best?

Yeah, we are really happy that we are loading minutes into him, and he has been responding really well. He's been training for weeks now without any issues, and that's the first period that he's been able to do that in the last six or seven months. You can see with the way he came on today. I thought he was really good.

Have you thought about how you might balance your squad for Europa League, and will you prioritise one competition over the other if it comes down to it?

Yeah, I thought about it, but then what happened with Mo and Thomas can happen and what your intention is and what you can do is related to what is available on the day and how the players are feeling. Of course, we want to give opportunities to the squad and the players because they really deserve them and rotate.

Liverpool predicted XI vs Newcastle United - with two players making first starts of the season

Liverpool bid for successive Premier League victories when they welcome Newcastle United to Anfield tonight.

The Reds endured a stuttering start to the 2022-23 season as they were held to draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace before losing 2-1 to bitter rivals Manchester United.

But Jurgen Klopp got the emphatic response he wanted as Liverpool romped to a 9-0 thrashing of AFC Bournemouth last weekend.

Now it’s crucial the Reds continue that form if they’re to not lose any more ground on Manchester City in the title race.

Liverpool have had well-documented injury problems during the early stages of the campaign.

The likes of Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate will again be unavailable although Curtis Jones and Joel Matip are expected to return to the squad.

With a busy few weeks upcoming up, Klopp may be tempted to make some changes to his starting line-up.

Here’s the Liverpool team we think will line-up against Newcastle.

Goalkeeper - Alisson Becker

Goalkeeper - Alisson Becker

Finally got his first clean sheet of the season against Bournemouth. Now will want another one.

Right-back - Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool after scoring his goal during the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and AFC Bournemouth

Endured three difficult games before bouncing back emphatically, like many of his team-mates, at the weekend with a sublime long-range goal.

Centre-back - Joe Gomez

The England international will be hoping to keep his spot in central defence for the long term amid Joel Matip returning to fitness.

Centre-back - Virgil van Dijk

The Dutchman oozed confidence against Bournemouth and it was the van Dijk who Kopites are used to seeing. Long may that continue.

Left-back - Kostas Tsimikas

Came off the bench to record two assists in the Cherries routing. With big games coming up against Everton and Napoli, Klopp may just opt to rest Andy Robertson and give Tsimikas a maiden start.

Centre-midfield - Fabinho

Surprisingly benched against Man Utd but showed his true worth when restored to the team last weekend.

Centre-midfield - Jordan Henderson

A win against Newcastle will still mean a lot for the Sunderland-born Liverpool captain.

Centre-midfield - Fabio Carvalho

The 20-year-old has been highly impressive since arriving from Fulham and netted his maiden Premier League goal when coming off the bench against Bournemouth. Harvey Elliott is a slight doubt and Klopp may not risk him - which would give Carvalho the chance to make a full debut.

Right-wing - Mo Salah

Somehow didn't score or record an assist against Bournemouth. Salah still remains Liverpool's main man, however, and will be hungry to get among the goals again.

Striker - Roberto Firmino

Answered a lot of his critics with not just a double in the Bournemouth win but an all-round fine display. Firmino will be hoping for another similar performance as Nunez closes in on his return.

Left-wing - Luis Diaz

Added goals to his game this season, which was the only criticism of his after making a barnstorming impression when joining from Porto in January.

Liverpool 'have made an offer' for Aston Villa midfielder

Liverpool 'have made an offer' for Aston Villa midfielder

Liverpool have made an offer from Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to reports.

Brazilian journalist Matheus Leal states that the Reds are targeting a deal for Douglas Luiz.

On Tuesday evening, he: "Brazilian Douglas Luiz could leave Aston Villa for Liverpool in the final hours of the window. Liverpool have made an offer of £20 million for the midfielder, who welcome the change of team. Aston Villa play hard and look to win a little more."

Arsenal Back in Cody Gakpo transfer race as Edu plots £38m offer amid Premier League rival bid

Cody Gakpo has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer and Arsenal could be swooping in very soon

MIKEL ARTETA ON WHETHER FFP WILL IMPACT ARSENAL'S TRANSFER BUSINESS

Arsenal have reportedly reignited their interest in Cody Gakpo as Mikel Arteta looks to further strengthen his frontline before the transfer window slams shut. The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, and the Gunners are preparing a last push for his signature.

Last month, football.london understood that Mikel Arteta's side are one of several clubs in England who are interested in the PSV winger. The Athletic have since named Everton, Leeds United and Southampton as the other candidates in the race for Gakpo.

It's said that the Saints are the only club who have made a concrete approach for the Netherlands international, but the Dutch giants turned down their offer. That could have been the wake-up call technical director Edu needed in order to sign Gakpo

Mikel Arteta ideal Arsenal transfer met with rival interest that sets up perfect Edu redemption

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal could be rejoining the hunt to sign the winger who idolises Gunners icon Thierry Henry. Speaking to The Sun back in April, Gakpo was honest in his admiration for English football.

He said: "The Premier League is a big league. Virgil van Dijk plays there with Liverpool, so I like to watch them. We are not in the same kind of league, but I think we try to look at the Prem and learn about it.

"Everybody wants to play one time in the Prem," Gakpo added. "I don't favour one team, but I like Arsenal a lot. I looked up to Henry when I was younger because he was a tall guy who played on the wing."

With a move on the cards, Fabrizio Romano states that PSV value Gakpo between €40million (£34m) and €45million (£38m). While the Emirates Stadium may be a more attractive proposition, football.london understands that Gakpo's current priority is to make the Netherlands' 2022 Qatar World Cup squad.

Arsenal have already signed Brazilian winger Marquinhos and striker Gabriel Jesus this summer. They could both be seen as roadblocks by Gakpo for first-team opportunities.

Youri Tielemans to Complete Arsenal transfer: Personal terms agreed, Newcastle battle, key sticking point

Arsenal transfer news: Leicester midfield Youri Tielemans has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer window

The Gunners are starting to get busy with their transfer market activities again as the days count down. Mikel Arteta is still keen to add a new midfielder and a winger to his side with consistent changes in the Youri Tielemans saga and Edu's attempts to strengthen the wide areas.

Tielemans  to be in a position whereby he would accept a move to the Emirates Stadium for free next summer. Though if a rival made an offer this summer, Arsenal would make a move.

With just a couple days remaining in the transfer window, it is still up in the air whether or the Gunners will make a late move for the Belgian. So with that said takes a look at the latest on the transfer saga surrounding the midfielder.

Personal terms agreed

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Tielemans since last summer, so it is no surprise that reports of a deal have intensified once again this year. According to Jacobs, personal terms between the Gunners and the midfielder are already in place.

"Tielemans wants to join Arsenal, and Edu is still in touch with his agent," he wrote on Twitter. "Arsenal agreed to terms and worked on the deal for a year but never placed an official bid."

Tielemans 'keen' on Manchester United

Sports journalist Pete O'Rourke has reported that the Belgium would not turn down a move to Man Utd.

The 25-year-old is into the last year on his contract with the Foxes and, according to Fabrizio Romano, he is not considering signing a new deal at the King Power Stadium - meaning Leicester could be forced to sell.

And although Arsenal are reportedly in front of the queue, the player would be interested in a move to Old Trafford.

Newcastle interest

Newcastle United have stepped up their interest in Tielemans. The club's sporting director Dan Ashworth has personally made enquiries about the Arsenal target as the Magpies search for reinforcements in the midfield.

Manchester United stance on more signings after Antony and Martin Dubravka deals

Man Utd are set to complete two more transfers but that could be the end of their business in this window.

Manchester United are unlikely to make any more signings in the final days of the transfer window once deals for Antony and Martin Dubravka are confirmed.

Antony is in Manchester to finalise his €100million move from Ajax and Dubravka

is to join on a season-long loan from Newcastle United, with an option to buy for £5million. Erik ten Hag has been pursuing a reunion with Antony all summer and the club have had to commit significant funds to land the 22-year-old, with Ajax playing hard ball after losing Lisandro Martinez to United for a fee that could reach £57million.

A breakthrough in negotiations arrived over the weekend and the Brazilian arrived in Manchester on Monday. He is now putting the finishing touches to a move, expected to sign a five-year contract with the option of an extra year

Ten Hag pushed the addition of a new goalkeeper up the list of priorities after David de Gea's difficulties in playing out from the back in the 4-0 defeat at Brentford. Those plans suffered a blow when Kevin Trapp decided to stay at Eintracht Frankfurt, with United switching their attentions to Dubravka, who had lost his place at Newcastle following the arrival of Nick Pope.

The 33-year-old Slovakian international will spend the campaign on loan at Old Trafford and will provide some competition to De Gea. He is likely to feature in the club's Europa League group games, which will all be played before November 3.

Those two additions will take United's total number of incomings to six in this window, following the signings of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Martinez and Casemiro.

Ten Hag had also wanted a right-back to challenge Diogo Dalot, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka not in his long-term plans, and potentially a striker. But United are now unlikely to make any more new signings in the final days of the window, which closes late on Thursday.

There is still uncertainty surrounding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is of interest to Sporting and Napoli. Ten Hag couldn't rule out the possibility that the 37-year-old had played his final game for the club in the win against Southampton on Saturday.

Diogo Jota Liverpool return date confirmed as Jurgen Klopp offers Thiago Alcantara injury update

Diogo Jota is closing in on a return to training as Liverpool's injury crisis slowly begins to ease up. The Reds saw Joel Matip and Curtis Jones take part in their session on Monday, having seen their squad decimated by injury during the opening weeks of the season.

Having been without as many as 10 senior players for their opening four games, Liverpool only recorded their first win of the campaign last time out as they thrashed AFC Bournemouth 9-0. And having seen his squad stung so hard by injuries, last week Klopp admitted the Reds had changed transfer stance and would look to sign a new midfielder if possible before Thursday's deadline.

But while that search is ongoing, the German revealed a number of his walking wounded are closing in on returns with Jota expected back in training before the end of the week, with Thiago Alcantara also not too far behind. The Portuguese suffered a hamstring injury on international duty before being dealt a further setback on his return to pre-season training, while the Spaniard hasn't featured since limping off against Fulham on the opening day of the season.

Arsenal to sign Ukrainian Mykhaylo Mudryk before Thursday deadline day if £29.9m transfer is completed

MIKEL ARTETA ON WHETHER FFP WILL IMPACT ARSENAL'S TRANSFER BUSINESS

Arsenal's pursuit of a sixth signing in this summer's transfer window has seen them linked with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

In fact, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have 'explored' the possibility of getting a deal done for the Ukraine international before deadline day, but they may have to act swiftly amid competition from Premier League rivals Everton, as well as several unnamed clubs.

"Keep an eye on top talent Mykhalo Mudryk. Everton had €30 million (£25.5 million) verbal proposal turned down by Shakhtar Donetsk last week," Romano tweeted. "Arsenal have explored conditions of Mudryk deal a few days ago — but just on player side. Many clubs want him, one to watch until the end."

Should Arsenal follow up their interest in Mudryk and meet Shakhtar's reported asking price of €35 million (£29.9 million) then all that would be left is for the player to reach an agreement regarding personal terms, pass a medical and then sign his contract before the window closes on Thursday night.

In the scenario that this deal does get completed before or on September 1, how would the winger's arrival affect the north London outfit in terms of bringing in more players amid links to Pedro Neto, Wilfried Zaha and Youri Tielemans, whilst adhering to the Premier League rules?

Well, the Gunners, along with the other 19 Premier League teams, will be permitted to name 25-man squads after the summer transfer window shuts - from which no more than 17 overseas players can be named - with the remaining eight places available to homegrown members of the squad.

To be considered homegrown, players need to have been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Welsh FA for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).

As things stand, not including any potential sales before transfer deadline day, the Arsenal senior players who currently meet the homegrown criteria are Ben White, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, Rob Holding, Aaron Ramsdale, Hector Bellerin, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson.

However, the good news is that if Mudryk does complete a move to the Emirates Stadium this week, he won't be taking up a non-homegrown spot. Instead, as he is born after January 1, 2001 - by four days - it means he can be registered as an Under-21 player who is eligible throughout the season, alongside William Saliba, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal wait on transfer decision amid Elneny, Partey and Zinchenko injury updates

The Gunners are dealing with several fitness concerns going into their Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Wednesday

Mohamed Elneny will miss Arsenal's Premier League match with Aston Villa due to a hamstring injury, football.london understands. The injury was sustained during Saturday's clash with Fulham, but the Egyptian carried on to play the full 90 minutes of the game.

The exact extent of the injury is not currently known with Elneny set be scanned over the next 24 hours to determine the length of time he will miss. It is thought that the Gunners will wait to confirm the severity of the Egyptian's absence before rushing to make any decisions in the final few days of the transfer window.

In the short term Arsenal could be bolstered by the return of Oleksandr Zinchenko, who may be in contention to play against Villa. The Ukrainian was subject to a fitness test after Saturday's win over Fulham and only missed the game as a "precautionary measure" after spraining his left knee.

Meanwhile, there is slightly more positive news on Thomas Partey, whose thigh injury is thought to be relatively minor despite fears over it being a repeat of the same one he suffered at the back end of last season. Arsenal are hopeful that the Ghanaian could be available for selection again in a couple of weeks.

Albert Sambi Lokonga is another option to play in the deeper midfield role. Ben White is also a player who Mikel Arteta has highlighted as an option to play in the position in the past

Youri Tielemans listed as "available" as Liverpool ponder midfield options

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has been described as "available" as Liverpool consider their midfield options in the days before the transfer deadline.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp made a public U-turn on his stance late last week as he admitted the club would look to strengthen in the engine room, however, it would still need to be the "right" player all things considered for Liverpool to complete their dramatic transfer turnaround.

According to Sky Sports' Melissa Reddy, Tielemans is one of the options the Reds could consider.

"Youri Tielemans profiles well and is available, but there clearly hasn't been enough credence in what he offers and how to integrate it within the specific functionalities of midfield," writes the Sky Sports reporter.

"If primary targets are not available - and there's no guarantee over them next summer either - then a short-term fix that has the tools to develop into long-term solution may work in this scenario

Good news LIVE from Anfield MATIP, JONES & RAMSAY BACK | LIVERPOOL TRAIN AHEAD OF NEWCASTLE

Joel Matip and Curtis Jones were both pictured in training on Monday after missing the last three and four games respectively, in what is a huge injury boost for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp surmised Liverpool’s injury woes a couple of weeks back as though “we had a witch in the building,” one that has not been quick to leave the premises

But after the feel-good 9-0 win over Bournemouth, the new week got off to a good start with training images showing both Matip and Jones working outside, with Calvin Ramsay also present.

Before the weekend’s match, Klopp revealed that Matip and Jones were the next in line to return, with Thiago “not too far away” either.

While the Spaniard’s rehabilitation continues away from the full group, having two senior figures injected back into the team is exactly what the Reds need ahead of a 19-game run in just 73 days.

Nevertheless, he looks to be making positive steps toward finally being integrated into Klopp’s side following his summer transfer.

Harvey Elliott undertook an individual session after a minor complaint saw him withdrawn at halftime on Saturday, and the manager was quick to say at the time that he “should be completely fine.”

Klopp will provide a more in-depth update on the injury status of his squad in Tuesday’s pre-Newcastle press conference.

Tchouameni and Camavinga are the driving force of an unstoppable Real Madrid

Tchouameni pushed the team from the start in the 3-1 win at Espanyol, while Camavi

nga
propelled them down the stretch, both with spectacular power and quality.

There were other important players too, with Vinicius' galloping runs, Thibaut Courtois' saves,  Benzema's instinct and Carlo Ancelotti's changes. Here comes a look at each player.

Decisive in the victory. He made a point blank save at a decisive moment, when that goal could have changed the destiny of the game.

Settled in well as a substitute for Dani Carvajal. Only suffered a little in the final stretch of the match.

Struggled to mark Joselu during the Espanyol onslaught that led to the equaliser. Not as forceful as on other occasions.

Very attentive to intercept a shot from Joselu in front of Courtois at 1-0. Powerful in the air.

More effective as a midfielder than as a left-back. Pushed from the flank when Real Madrid pressed for the win.

Tchouameni provided a spectacular assist to Vinicius. Powerful in recovery too, inspired on the ball and in his attacking play. It was a great game from a player who is already untouchable for Ancelotti.

His influence waned as the game progressed and he was rightly substituted.

Brought clarity and speed to the game. Good in his role as orchestra conductor.

Valverde had a good one-two with Tchouameni for Vinicius' goal and spread his energy all over the pitch. It was a surprise when he was substituted.

Scored a spectacular goal to give his team the lead, though he wasted a couple of chances to extend his team's advantage.

Disconnected for 85 minutes, but lethal in the last 10. Benzema appeared at the decisive moment to bring out his goalscoring instinct and give Real Madrid the win.

He came on for Modric in the 56th minute. Showed his strength and class to give Real Madrid an indisputable plus in the final stretch.

He came on for Valverde in, but was not an improvement on the Uruguayan. Yet, he did provide the match winning assist to Benzema.

Substituted in place of Kroos in the 80th minute, he forced a red card on Benjamin Lecomte, which led to the foul that made it 3-1.

He came on for Lucas in minute 85 to give his fatigued teammate a breather.

The policy of changing the starting XI worked from the start. When the team began to suffer, he made the right changes with Rodrygo and Camavinga coming on, which gave the team an undeniable boost.

Arsenal: £60m signing 'could be another Gabriel Jesus' at the Emirates

Arsenal can sign Pedro Neto, O’Rourke thinks the Portuguese star would be a great addition to their squad

Obviously, Arsenal have done some good business in the window already with Gabriel Jesus adding something different to the Arsenal team, and I think Pedro Neto could do similar – versatile player, skilful as well.”

Would Neto be Arsenal’s best signing of the summer?

As O’Rourke mentioned, Neto is quite a skilful player. Back in the 2020/21 Premier League season, the Portugal international completed 2.1 dribbles per game – the second-highest average in Wolves’ squad (via WhoScored) – so he is an individual who can go past defenders.

That campaign, Neto also made two key passes on average, which none of his team-mates could better, further showing his quality in attack.

Still, even if Arsenal were to add him to their squad, you cannot look past Jesus when debating who the Gunners’ best signing of the summer is.

The Brazil international brings so much: goals, versatility, experience and a winning pedigree after picking up four Premier League titles during his time at Manchester City.

In general, Jesus has been one of the signings of this transfer window, at least going off the start he has made at the Emirates.

Neto, though, could still be a brilliant addition to Arsenal’s roster and may be needed following Nicolas Pepe’s loan move to Nice.

Liverpool willing to offer deal to sign £230,000 a week midfielder – Report

Liverpool are consistently linked with midfielders and surprisingly, the name of German international, Toni Kroos, is in the focus.

The Real Madrid star is one of the best midfielders in the world and as per reports, three clubs are interested in hiring his services.

News – £49,000 a week player agrees to sign for Liverpool – Report

According to Spanish source, Fichajes, the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are willing to sign the Kaiser from the Los Blancos.

Jurgen Klopp is tired of asking for reinforcements for the midfield and it is reported that the Reds would be willing to offer a contract to sign the former Bavarian from the European Champions.

Kroos won every major title with the Allianz Arena outfit before moving to Spain and with Real Madrid, apart from Copa Del Rey, he has won all the trophies multiple times.

The 32-year-old is one of the few players who have lifted the coveted Champions League trophy five times.

He is still an important member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad but his contract at the Bernabeu will expire in less than a year.

The World Cup winning star signed his last deal with the La Liga giants back in 2019 and he earns a salary of around 14 million euros per season i.e. £230,000 a week (Football Transfers).

Kroos has the quality and the experience to improve things in the center of the park at Anfield but in all fairness, we already have an ageing midfield and should not move to sign a veteran who will turn 33 in four months.

Have your say – Who should Liverpool lure before the closure of the summer transfer window?

Liverpool could rival EPL team for the signing of Crystal Palace super star a perfect cover up for Mo Salah & Luiz Diaz

After failing to make waves at Manchester United, one forward may only have one last shot at the big time. At the right price, Liverpool could offer it to him.

The transfer rumour mill will intensify before it comes to a standstill. As the September 1 deadline looms, expect plenty of links before a few months of relative silence.

Liverpool are no exception to this, and an abundance of players will be mentioned before the close of business. Most of them are likely to be midfielders.

But there is one player who is not a midfielder, and to whom Liverpool have not been linked, who should nonetheless perhaps feature in the thinking at Anfield over the coming days. That's Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha.

Zaha is in his final year at Crystal Palace and isn’t likely to sign an extension to his current deal. Moreover, Chelsea are reportedly lining up a bid (via The Independent) for the Ivorian.

A move this summer would likely represent Zaha’s final chance to crack the big time, with his move to Manchester United in 2013 turning out to be very underwhelming.

Now nearing 30, time is running out for Zaha to make good on the promise he showed at Palace during his first stint at the club, and which he’s also displayed in his second run at Selhurst Park.

Should Liverpool make a bid for Zaha too, and bring him to Anfield before the window shuts?

Zaha scored 14 league goals in 33 games last season, in a Crystal Palace side that weren’t exactly the picture of attacking football. Patrick Vieira has moulded them into a well-disciplined unit, and introduced more of a creative impetus, but the Eagles still scored some 44 goals fewer than Liverpool.

Yet Zaha’s 14 goals played a vital role in keeping Crystal Palace well clear of any relegation discussions. What makes Zaha a potential signing for Liverpool is in the fact that he plays both on the left and right wing, making him a perfect fit for Jürgen Klopp.

He wouldn’t be the automatic starter that he is now, but he could make effective cover for Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz, should either of them need resting or become unavailable through injury. Amid the transfer clamour for a midfielder, this is one somewhat overlooked area.

Victor Osimhen to Man United transfer: Cristiano Ronaldo swap, Tottenham advantage, Arsenal blow

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur look set to be handed a major blow in the race to sign Victor Osimhen. The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to north London in the past, but the striker could soon be penning a deal with Manchester United.

Osimhen, who sees his contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona expire in 202r, featured 27 times for Luciano Spalletti's side in the Serie A last season, directly contributing towards 19 goals. His impressive displays guided the Italian giants to a third-place finish in the league - just five points title contenders Inter Milan.

And, Osimhen has started the new season as well as he finished the last, scoring twice in three games to send Napoli top of the table. But, while he may continue to prove himself as one of Europe's leading strikers, his contract expires in two years and, naturally, his market value will gradually decrease until it's too late.

Ronaldo swap deal

Osimhen has become heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, with the summer transfer window set to close in the coming days. And, according to ESPN senior journalist Gabriele Marcotti, a move to Old Trafford could hinge on whether a Cristiano Ronaldo swap deal can be achieved.

Edu bid rejected, Napoli set price

Earlier in the summer, Arsenal had a bid worth €90million (£76million) reject for Osimhen, according to Calciomercato. The striker has been central to the Napoli's success in recent years, with many top European clubs reportedly keen to secure his signature.

The report adds that the Italian side's transfer chief Aurelio De Laurentiis values the Nigeria international at around £93million. Any form of move away from Napoli is yet to materialise, with the asking price likely to be a primary deterrent.

Tottenham consider move

Osimhen was once on Spurs' radar, football.london understand. Tottenham first considered the striker from his time in Ligue1

Osimhen 'chooses' Arsenal over Man Utd, Spurs advantage

As reported by the La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Daily Express, Osimhen has reportedly said that he would prefer to a move to the Emirates Stadium over Old Trafford. However, it's believed that the 23-year-old has a long-standing desire to play in the Champions League this season.

Of course, neither Arsenal or United are in the competition this term, handing Tottenham a major advantage if Fabio Paratici looks to hijack a deal. Napoli will participate in the Champions League this season though, essentially giving Osimhen little reason to leave.

According to Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport, via Football Italia, Osimhen's agent has met with Napoli's transfer chief Aurelio De Laurentiis and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli to discuss a potential move to Arsenal or Manchester United.

Osimhen has previously admitted that he came close to joining Arsenal during Arsene Wenger's trophy-laden time in north London. Speaking to the Independent back in 2020, the striker said: "I spoke with Arsene Wenger after the tournament (Under-17 World Cup) ended and he wanted me to come to Arsenal.

"I had a lot of options. Barcelona; Inter Milan; Atletico Madrid; Juventus and the rest. Arsenal was a good option but it wasn’t the best at the time. I wanted to start playing as soon as I turned 18."

Fulham game shows Arsenal must continue to spend this summer

Arsenal have been highly active in the transfer market this summer. But against Fulham, it showed that further investment in the squad is required.

The Gunners have won four games in a row and sit at the top of the Premier League table. Life is pretty good for all fans and Mikel Arteta, but Saturday’s comeback win showed exactly why further investment is needed.

The team news broke an hour before the game, and we saw Thomas Partey and Oleksander Zinchenko missing due to injuries. Kieran Tierney filled in reasonably well, while Mohamed Elneny produced a vintage display.

But in the Egyptian’s case, the need for another midfielder to come in before the transfer window slams shut in the next few days is distinct.

Elneny did nothing wrong while on the pitch, he was neat and tidy in possession. He kept things ticking over nicely in the middle of the park and shielded the back four reasonably well.

But he is limited. Looking at the differences in his game compared to Partey, the need for investment is seen.

At times the Egyptian received the ball and could have driven forward and played progressive football in a similar role to Partey. But instead, the ball was played sideways or backward, and any potential move was quickly halted.

Say Arsenal sign Youri Tielemans; this would not happen. While Tielemans doesn’t possess the defensive nous of Elneny, he has much of the same attributes as Thomas Partey.

The Belgian can distribute the ball as well as any player in the Premier League and would constantly push the Gunners forward with his ability to break defensive lines.

This is not a knock on Elneny. He’s a serviceable player and he does his job whenever called upon. But for Arsenal to further improve, more quality must be brought in.

It might not happen this window, but the game against Fulham showed that it likely needs to. Partey’s absence hamstrung the Gunners in many aspects, although Elneny did a fine job in ensuring Arsenal were able to sustain pressure by efficiently circulating possession.

For all of the great things to happen this offseason, such as the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, and Oleksandr Zinchenko, as well as William Saliba’s return, our midfield situation remains a precarious one.

Pogba’s Brother Among Suspects Involved In £11m Blackmail Of Juve Star

Mathias Pogba, brother to Juventus midfielder, has been linked to an £ 11 million blackmail scheme to release compromising videos of his brother, Paul Pogba.

Earlier, Paul reportedly told French police about an alleged plot to extort a large sum of money by a gang that dragged him to his Paris apartment and threatened him with assault rifles.

The former United star claimed the men demanded protection money for service rendered during his stay at Old Trafford and beyond.

The incident came after Mathias’s apparent video publication in four different languages threatening great revelations about the Juventus star.

In a brief statement signed by Pauls’s mother, Yeo Mor, and the family lawyer expressed disappointment in the social media video confirming prior extortion attempts by Mathias.

“Unfortunately, Mathias Pogba’s recent social media posts come as no surprise and follow other attempts over a prolonged period of time to try to extort money from Paul Pogba,” it read.

“The facts have been reported to the Italian and French police a month ago and there will be no further comment on the ongoing investigations.

“Paul Pogba’s lawyers, Yeo Moriba (mother of Mathias and Paul) and Rafaela Pimenta.”

Judicial sources in Paris confirmed on Sunday that an investigation for ‘attempted extortion in an organised gang’ has been opened. On Sunday night a source close to the case told the Franceinfo news outlet that Pogba’s ‘big brother and childhood friends are all named as suspects.

However, Mathais would go on to deny these claims on his Twitter handle in a series of tweets and accusing Pau;l of being a “hypocrite” and involved in “witchcraft”

Edu can seal three-year Arsenal transfer mission with £35m Wilfried Zaha deal amid agent negotiate before Thursday deadline day

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha for over three years, and the Gunners could finally strike with the attacker having just one year left on his contract

Arsenal have held an interest in signing Crystal Palace superstar Wilfried Zaha for the past three years if reports are to be believed.

The Gunners are searching for a new attacker to sign before the summer transfer window slams shut on Thursday. Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery was keen to bring Zaha to the Emirates Stadium back in 2019, but after a £40million bid was rejected by Palace, a move failed to materialise, with his Ivory Coast teammate Nicolas Pepe joining for £72million instead.

Zaha has admitted in the past that he has always been an Arsenal fan, which could give the Gunners an edge in a potential transfer fight with Chelsea also interested in signing the 29-year-old. Technical director Edu could finally complete Arsenal's three-year mission to sign Zaha this summer, with Mikel Arteta hopeful of adding one or two more players to his squad before the deadline.

The Crystal Palace star has enjoyed a brilliant start to the 2022/23 campaign scoring three goals in three games, but missed the loss to Manchester City following a leg injury suffered in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa. Zaha's agents have been exploring options for the player in this summer’s transfer window with just one year left on his current deal at Selhurst Park, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Reports have suggested should Chelsea fail in their attempts to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Anthony Gordon before the transfer deadline, the Blues will target a move for Zaha instead. Arsenal could hand Chelsea a major transfer blow by snapping up a deal to sign the Palace star before Todd Boehly looks to start negotiations.

Bet9ja
Zaha was apparently close to a move abroad to join Jose Mourinho's Roma side in Italy before the Serie A outfit turned their attentions to signing Paulo Dybala on a free transfer instead. Following Nicolas Pepe's departure on loan, the Gunners could do with another attacker to compete with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira.

The 29-year-old has scored 86 goals and provided a further 73 assists in 433 appearances for the Eagles, but his time at Selhurst Park may come to an end this summer. Zaha has shown no indication of signing a new deal with Patrick Vieira's side and interest is beginning to ramp up with just four days left in the transfer window, with Arsenal rumoured to be looking at making a move for the Palace superstar and complete a three-year transfer mission.

Liverpool's sale of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich branded 'the worst bit of business ever seen in football' Josh Lawless

Liverpool's sale of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich branded 'the worst bit of business ever seen in football'

Paul Merson believes Liverpool's sale of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich is "the worst bit of business" he has ever seen in football.

The Senegalese forward ended a glorious six-year stint at Liverpool in the summer, joining Bayern Munich in a £35 million switch and penning a three-year deal.

Mane has already been ripping it up in the Bundesliga with three goals in as many games, including a brace in the 7-0 hiding inflicted on VFL Bochum last weekend.

Meanwhile, with Mane no longer around, Liverpool failed to record a victory in their opening three fixtures.

The former Southampton man scored 120 goals for the club and was integral in their Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup triumphs under Jurgen Klopp.

He wanted to move on to a new challenge but former Arsenal legend Merson has slammed the decision to offload him.

No one’s got started yet for Liverpool, no one’s playing well,” Merson said on Sky Sports on Saturday.

“With Sadio Mane, I thought it was the worst bit of business I’ve ever seen in football for a long, long time. It was one of the worst I’ve ever seen.

Pep Guardiola's reaction to Erling Haaland's hat-trick is incredible
“£30m for a big-game player. If I’m the owner of the club, I want to win the league and you keep Mane to give yourself the best chance of that.

Let him go for free next summer, he’s done enough and it’s £30m. I think that’s come back to bite them.

“They haven’t got started but I wouldn’t be worried yet. I’d be amazed if they finished outside the top four.”

Merson has already gone on record to say Liverpool getting rid of Mane is a major mistake, while past comments from Jamie Carragher on the Africa Cup of Nations winner have gone viral after Liverpool's slow start.

Though Liverpool still have the likes of Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez in their ranks, Mane's contributions cannot be be looked past.

Bayern Munich's Offer For Liverpool's Sadio Mane Revealed
Sadio Mane has had a superb trophy-laden season, winning the FA Cup and League Cup with Liverpool and the AFCON with Senegal. He has also been nominated for the PFA Mens Player of the Year and is in contention for the African Player of the Year after winning player of the tournament in the African Cup of Nations.

But is is now been widely reported that he is keen to leave Anfield and go again with a different club. Bayern Munich, who are in the market for a new forward this summer due to Robert Lewandowski’s imminent departure, are said to be keen to sign him, and according to Sky Sports Germany, have now made an offer.

Bayern are offering a three-year contract to Mane, with personal terms not looking to be an issue. Despite only having one year on his current contract, Bayern are said to be willing to spend €30m with further potential add-ons of €5-10m.

It is no surprise Bayern Munich are looking to the Senegalese forward, who has provided 23 goals and 5 assists this season, 5 of those goals coming in the Champions League. Mane has also won the Premier League, the Champions League, the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup since joining Liverpool in 2016.
Mane would bring a unique option to the Bundesliga champions, with his ability to play through the middle and on the wing. Nagelsmann has previously utilised players with similar ability as a 9-and-a-half, which would allow Mane to drop back to secure the ball - and drive the attack forward.

Liverpool have already been linked with attacking replacements such as Benfica’s Darwin Nunez.
Bayern initially offered £21 million with an additional £4 million in add-ons, while their follow-up bid was worth in the region of £23.5 million with an additional £6.5 million in add-ons.

According to German publication Bild, the Bundesliga champions are now set to launch a third approach for Mane, which would be worth around £35 million.

However, Liverpool’s assistant sporting director Julian Ward has warned his Bayern counterpart Hasan Salihamidzic not to travel to the North West of England for talks over the deal if he is not to present a more suitable package, which would include an offer closer to £40 million.

Bild claim that the new offer Salihamidzic is proposing would include an initial £30.15 million, with an additional £4.31 million in bonuses. Although this falls slightly short of Liverpool’s valuation, they may be ready to compromise and there is a feeling this offer could be accepted.

Bayern are supposedly keen on making this a brief negotiation as they look to complete the deal quickly so that they can integrate Mane into pre-season, which starts in a few weeks time.

Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Mane “still wants to join Bayern” and “only Bayern” and that the Munich club have already offered the 30-year-old a three-year contract, which he’s likely to accept. The Mirror’s David Maddock has mooted a potential £360,000 a week wage being on the table.

Mane has enjoyed a hugely successful spell on Merseyside, scoring 120 times in 269 appearances since arriving from Southampton in 2016 for £34 million.

Liverpool target Ruben Neves says he always talks about Thiago

Liverpool target Ruben Neves says he always talks about Thiago

Reports at the weekend noted that Liverpool are admirers of Ruben Neves, with the Reds’ scouts impressed with the Wolves captain.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to sign another midfielder before the transfer deadline. And it seems as though Neves is on the Reds’ radar.

It is hard to imagine Wolves letting the £50 million-rated Portuguese leave. He is arguably their most important player. And his departure would leave Bruno Lage’s squad with a massive void to fill, and not much time to fill it.

What would potentially help Liverpool is if Neves makes it clear that he would like to go.

There is nothing to suggest that he would take action to try and force through any kind of exit. But in an interview with The Times over the weekend, Neves admitted that he missed playing in the Champions League

He was also asked about which opponents in the Premier League he has admired. And interestingly, there was mention of one current Liverpool star in his answer.

When I played [Eden] Hazard it was unbelievable, just impossible to take the ball from him. I always speak about Thiago Alcântara who is one of the best I’ve played against. And then you have [N’Golo] Kanté. He is unbelievable. Defensively and offensively,” he told The Times.

Liverpool admirers of Neves

The problem Liverpool now face is that clubs are aware of their desire to sign a midfielder. And those good enough for the Reds are surely going to cost considerably more considering how close we are to the deadline.

With that in mind, it is hard to see Neves making the switch at this late stage.

It would certainly be a remarkable statement. And if any team has any chance of pulling it off, it is potentially Liverpool.

But the Champions League finalists will also be wary of overpaying at this point when their plan appeared to be strengthening in the middle of the park next summer.

TRANSFER NEWS LIVE : Liverpool consider Sander Berge transfer as Jurgen Klopp eyes urgent deal

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has recently admitted the club are on the lookout for a new midfielder ahead of next week's deadline, with Sheffield United's Sander Berge emerging as a potential option

Liverpool are considering a move for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge ahead of next week’s deadline, according to reports.

Jurgen Klopp has been adamant for much of the summer that the Reds’ transfer business had been concluded with the arrivals of Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay. But with an injury crisis engulfing his midfield options, the Kop boss has accepted a change of tact is now necessary.

Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are all on the sidelines, with Klopp admitting a transfer may now be necessary. “I know we have had this discussion since it all started and I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and you were all right and I was wrong,” he said earlier this week.

“That’s the situation. There is really nothing more to say about it. We are looking for it, and if it is the right player we need him and if it is not the right player we don’t need him.”

Ruben Neves issues update on transfer interest after Man Utd and Liverpool links

A number of names have been touted as potential options for Liverpool, who finally got their Premier League campaign up and running with the thrashing of Bournemouth. Jude Bellingham is a target for Anfield chiefs, although there is an acceptance that following the exit of Erling Haaland, Borussia Dortmund will not sell until at least next summer.

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is another name tentatively linked, although the Midlands outfit are driving a hard bargain amid reports they will ask for upwards of £70m. Norwegian international Berge would be a cheaper option and The Yorkshire Post claims he is now under consideration.

Ruben Neves issues update on Wolves future amid Liverpool transfer speculation

Ruben Neves has admitted he did not expect to still be a Wolves player this season as speculation over his future continues.

Liverpool were first rumoured to be interested in the Portuguese midfielder during his Porto days and have recently been linked with the 25-year-old once again. Jurgen Klopp could yet add a midfielder to the ranks ahead of next week's transfer deadline as concern grows over this department, though the Reds' boss has maintained he will only move for the 'right player.'

Neves has been at Wolves since 2017 and has gradually developed into an influential player for the West Midlands side. Other top-flight sides such as Arsenal and Manchester United have been named as possible destinations in recent years, though he has stayed true to his current employers.

Man Utd shirt numbers Antony could wear as £84m transfer 'agreement' struck with Ajax

Manchester United’s long pursuit of Brazil star Antony finally looks like it has come to an end after the Red Devils reportedly agreed a deal of around £84million to reunite boss Erik ten Hag with his Ajax prodigy. However, he faces a conundrum over what shirt number to wear with the suspended Mason Greenwood currently holding the No 11 shirt he currently wears while Scott McTominay is the proud holder of his other favourite No 39.

Express Sport takes a look at the options available to the incoming star as he looks to make an impression at his new club.

Unlucky for some - but maybe it can bring the Brazilian good fortune. The shirt was previously worn by third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant but could appeal to the 22-year-old as it is the lowest shirt number available that is not synonymous with defenders.

No 15

The number currently lies vacant after Andreas Periera’s departure for Fulham in the summer. It would come with some serious pedigree for the new signing having previously belonged to legendary defender Nemanja Vidic. The Serbian is a club icon having captained the club and winning five titles during his time in Manchester

Man Utd takeover: What Ten Hag has told his players about the Glazers

No 21

The Red Devils are currently on an unlikely quest to claim their 21st title meaning the shirt might hold some appeal to Antony. The number was previously held by Edinson Cavani after he was forced to vacate the No 7 for Cristiano Ronaldo meaning it would come with some attacking pedigree.

No 24

The No 24 has been the home of some of the club’s more popular players with cult-hero Darren Fletcher being one previous occupant. Antony could look to tap into this nostalgia should his arrival at Old Trafford be confirmed with the number unfilled after Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s departure.

Arsenal shirt numbers still available amid Youri Tielemans and Pedro Neto transfer move

Mikel Arteta has already brought in five new players to Arsenal this summer and there is less than a week to go until the window slams shut amid links to Youri Tielemans and Pedro Neto

MIKEL ARTETA ON WHETHER FFP WILL IMPACT ARSENAL'S TRANSFER BUSINESS

The transfer window has less than a week to run and Arsenal could yet further strengthen before it slams shut.

The Gunners have already brought in five players this summer but have been linked with ample names. It remains to be seen whether boss Mikel Arteta will dip back into the market for further reinforcements and he remained coy on the subject when asked prior to their latest Premier League clash against Fulham.

One area many have suggested as being in need of strengthening is

on the wing, especially given Nicolas Pepe's departure. Earlier this week the Ivory Coast international was granted permission to join Nice on a season-long loan arrangement. That has led to speculation linking Arsenal with both Wolves' Pedro Neto and PSV's Cody Gakpo

The only first XI squad number at the Emirates Stadium which is likely to be up for grabs between now and September 1 is No.2 - currently held by out-of-favour Hector Bellerin.

Whilst Arsenal are unlikely to bring in more defensive reinforcements, Gakpo, Neto or any other attack-minded player who enters the building could decide to go down the Wilfried Bony route and occupy the No.2 shirt despite it being heavily associated with full-backs rather than forwards.

Youri Tielemans, the Leicester City midfielder, is another who has been linked with a late-window move to Arsenal.
