Liverpool transfer round-up: Bids launched for two players as midfield duo ruled out
Liverpool are desperately attempting to identify the right midfielder to bring in in the final few hours of the transfer window, with a host of names lined up on deadline day
Liverpool are set on signing a new midfielder in the final few hours of the summer transfer window following a number of injuries to their options in those positions, leaving Jurgen Klopp’s side very short on strength in depth.
According to the latest reports, a bid has now been ‘lodged’ for Moises Caicedo, while another is said to have been ‘made’ for Douglas Luiz as the Reds target their Premier League rivals. Elsewhere, two targets from Europe have now been ruled out of a move as the clock ticks down.
Reds ‘lodge’ £42m bid for Caicedo
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Brighton star in recent weeks but it has been made clear by Seagulls boss Graham Potter that no bid will be enough to convince the club into selling the 20-year-old this summer.
However, the Reds appear to have ignored those warnings, with The Sun reporting that they are ready to launch a £42million bid for the Ecuadorian international, even if it will almost certainly be rebuffed immediately by the Seagulls, who are under no pressure to sell.
Klopp is after another addition to his long list of midfielders following injuries to a number of them already this season, and Caicedo is backed to be a long-term signing and one who can help to be part of the next generation of players for the future.

Liverpool eye Douglas Luiz
With time at a premium and Liverpool running out of options, the Reds appear to be strategically targeting players who are already in the country and recent reports have revealed that a shock bid has been submitted for Aston Villa’s Brazilian midfielder.
According to Torcedores, the Reds have offered £20m for Luiz as they look to ease their midfield woes ahead of the transfer deadline. It is claimed the former Manchester City player is keen on changing clubs.
However, Villa are expected to hold out for an increased fee, which is in line with their reported €35m (£30m) asking price from earlier in the summer, should they allow Luiz to leave. This means Liverpool will have to rethink their offer if they are serious
