Edu can seal three-year Arsenal transfer mission with £35m Wilfried Zaha deal amid agent negotiate before Thursday deadline day
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha for over three years, and the Gunners could finally strike with the attacker having just one year left on his contract
Arsenal have held an interest in signing Crystal Palace superstar Wilfried Zaha for the past three years if reports are to be believed.
The Gunners are searching for a new attacker to sign before the summer transfer window slams shut on Thursday. Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery was keen to bring Zaha to the Emirates Stadium back in 2019, but after a £40million bid was rejected by Palace, a move failed to materialise, with his Ivory Coast teammate Nicolas Pepe joining for £72million instead.
Zaha has admitted in the past that he has always been an Arsenal fan, which could give the Gunners an edge in a potential transfer fight with Chelsea also interested in signing the 29-year-old. Technical director Edu could finally complete Arsenal's three-year mission to sign Zaha this summer, with Mikel Arteta hopeful of adding one or two more players to his squad before the deadline.
The Crystal Palace star has enjoyed a brilliant start to the 2022/23 campaign scoring three goals in three games, but missed the loss to Manchester City following a leg injury suffered in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa. Zaha's agents have been exploring options for the player in this summer’s transfer window with just one year left on his current deal at Selhurst Park, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Reports have suggested should Chelsea fail in their attempts to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Anthony Gordon before the transfer deadline, the Blues will target a move for Zaha instead. Arsenal could hand Chelsea a major transfer blow by snapping up a deal to sign the Palace star before Todd Boehly looks to start negotiations.
