Arsenal news and transfers LIVE: Mykhaylo Mudryk agreement, Felix £18.5m loan, Tielemans boost

Arsenal face an £18.5 million hurdle in pursuit of Joao Felix

According to The Athletic, Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes has contacted several English clubs to discuss possible terms for a loan until the summer. Initial talks focused on a €21m (£18.5m) package for the rest of this season, with a €15m (£13.2m) loan going to Atletico and the remainder being the wages of the player covers.

Arsenal are looking for a striker, but are unwilling to pay the requested loan amount and Felix’s salary. The Gunners would be willing to negotiate a loan deal worth around half the current asking price of Atletico and the player.

The report adds that Arsenal like the 23-year-old striker and some influential figures at the club believe he would make an ideal addition, particularly on loan. The current Premier League leaders see a deal for Felix as similar to the initial loan that brought Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid to the Emirates Stadium – with the north Londoners offering the player a chance to revive their career and potential to a permanent move to earn the summer.

Given that the size of the current package being offered to Premier League clubs is seen as too expensive even for a club with United’s resources, this shows that Arsenal will need to cut rental and salary significantly before any a deal can be made. Atlético and Mendes may be scaling down their demands as the January transfer window progresses, given Felix’s desire to leave the Spanish club and get his career back on track.
