Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle LIVE MATCH STREAM

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

FT: Newcastle escape north London unscathed and still beaten only once this season.

The visitors had the better of the chances over the 90 minutes and did plenty to stifle Arsenal - I wonder if we've heard the end of that penalty shout?

90+5: The VAR doesn't think that's worth another look or a review. Have a look at this and see for yourself.

Could that be a penalty after some of the ones we've seen this season?

90+5: NO PENALTY! Huge shouts for a handball as Xhaka's cross hits what may be the hand of a Newcastle defender.

Arteta is apoplectic, Arsenal players surround the referee... Will VAR have a look?

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Sky Sports' Gary Neville:

"Ordinarily, Arsenal would bring on substitutions, change the shape of the game, disrupt the Newcastle defence.

"But Arsenal don't have that luxury, and it's a big problem, particularly in tight games like this.

"We're only 17 games into the season - there's 21 games left. We knew before the game that Arsenal needed improvements in their squad and this, I'm sure, will reinforce that."

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

90+4: Joelinton wins the first ball and tries to buy another corner off Zinchenko but is outthought by the Arsenal defender.

As the hosts then look to attack, Xhaka takes the ball on the turn and has time to look for Nketiah.

A slight deflection takes it away from the striker and back into Newcastle hands. Time's running out for a winner either way.

90+2: The Newcastle fans go bananas when they win a throw-in high up the pitch and much like Arteta, they're on another level when Burn then smacks it off Saka for a corner...

88: CLOSE! A goal here would surely be a winner and Nketiah is so close to getting it, latching onto Odegaard's smart ball forward in the area.

He's denied by Pope's legs when he tries to fire it across the Newcastle goalkeeper. Had to score really.

86: Ex-Gunner Willock isn't getting much of a welcome return to the Emirates right now after sinking to the ground to waste a bit more time.

Wouldn't you know it, he's back on his feet after a few moments with the physio. This guy must be a miracle worker the speed he heals these players.

84: Arsenal break for the first time in a while as Odegaard, Xhaka and Martinelli link up well.

The Brazilian looks to return the ball to Odegaard in the area, but he then scuffs an effort which Newcastle clear.

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

52: Joelinton has the physio on again. Is this a bit of gamesmanship from him?

Whether he's faking it or not, you wouldn't expect him to last 90 minutes tonight. The lure of Saint-Maximin will be too much for Howe to resist at some point.

49: CHANCE! Wilson tries his luck closing down Ramsdale in the box and gets something on his nonchalant clearance.

Almiron intercepts before Xhaka makes a vital sliding block to stop him firing home first time. Almiron keeps it alive and flashes a low cross in from the right, which no-one gets a touch on.

It hasn't taken Newcastle long to ride the Arsenal pressure in this half...

He jumps highest to head back across goal - but his looping header lands on the roof of the net.

46: And we're back. No changes at the break. A coffee very welcome in this weather though.

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

HT: Everyone needs to take a breath. It's been frantic and down right dirty at times with referee Andy Madley to the fore, booking five players. Newcastle's gameplan is working a treat and after repelling the early pressure from Arsenal have caused big problems from set pieces.

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle:

"Joelinton has to score. I'm not quite sure why that was so difficult."

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

45+2: BIG CHANCE! Their dreams almost come true! Trippier goes to the near side this time, and Schar's flick is begging to be turned home by Joelinton on the back post.

He gets his head to it but can't keep it down. A big chance and a really poor effort.

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

45+2: CORNER! The roar that goes up from the Newcastle fans means only one thing - a goal? No, another set piece.

Longstaff's shot is blocked behind by Partey, and Trippier will line this up from the left...

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

45: Two minutes added on at the break. There's one man in the middle who will be delighted to get inside for a half-time orange right now.

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

:

"Eddie Howe will be pleased with how Newcastle overcame a very difficult period in this first half. But he'll want his team to be better on the ball."

21:29

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

43: YELLOW! Xhaka becomes the fifth player in the book in 16 minutes with the worst of the lot so far, flying in on the slide on Almiron for a ball he's never favourite to win.

Madley gets his card out again, and is in danger of losing control of the game.

21:28

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

42: NO PENALTY! It takes longer than you'd think for Attwell to decide there's nothing in it - because Burn's got a handful of Gabriel's shirt all the way into the Arsenal box.

21:28

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Sky Sports’ Lewis Jones at The Emirates:

“This one is turning into one spicy match. Five bookings now and there will be more to come. This is what Newcastle want. It’s a scrappy affair now with their physicality coming to the fore.

"Tough job for Andy Madley."

Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

32: YELLOW! Nketiah is booked by Andy Madley for pulling back Guimaraes on the half-way line.

The Arsenal fans around us aren't impressed. Burn avoided a booking for that foul on Nketiah a few minutes ago, and it seems they haven't forgotten.

29: Clever play from Nketiah.

Arsenal don't have anyone forward when they win the ball back deep and when he's fed the ball, he's going nowhere and waits for contact from Burn before going down to buy Arsenal a free-kick.

28: YELLOW!! Like buses, another yellow. A long ball draws Wilson to try and block Saliba's clearance and leaves a high boot in the air. If anything Saliba kicks Wilson but it looks a dangerous challenge. Just a yellow for Wilson.

26: YELLOW! You can almost see the steam coming out of Arteta's ears when Wilson goes down under White's challenge right in front of the Arsenal dugout and Andy Madley is straight to his whistle.

He knows as well as anyone how much Arsenal need to avoid giving away any silly set-pieces, but they deal well with this one - and then Guimaraes is booked for hauling down Martinelli on the break.

Sky Sports’ Lewis Jones at The Emirates:

“If this was a boxing match between Saka and Burn (well, it would be unfair) but Burn might just be pulling this one back on points right now. He reads a one-two with Odegaard and Saka and sees it out for a goal kick. It triggers huge applause from Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall.”

Sky Sports' Gary Neville:

"It's not quite happening for Newcastle in an attacking sense but I think if you said to Eddie Howe after five minutes, you'd be in this position after 23, he'd be delighted.

Sky Sports' Ron Walker at The Emirates:

"Newcastle are playing the game of risk pushing men forward in numbers when they have the ball, but Eddie Howe won't be happy with how sluggish they are to clear the danger.

"Several of Arsenal's chances already have come once their initial attacks have broken down - they've swarmed Newcastle and come close to profiting from it."

Trippier's delivery to the back stick is excellent, and Schar has to hit the target - but nods just over from eight yards.

13: WIDE! Just as we're turning to one another and saying how Newcastle have ridden the early storm, Almiron is tackled in the box and within seconds Arsenal have found Nketiah on the half-way line.

He's held up by Schar's slide in the Newcastle box but holds onto the ball and puls it back for Xhaka, who scuffs it horribly.

It stays in play even so - and at the end of pressure, Newcastle finally escape unscathed when Odegaard runs it out of play.

11: SAVE! Newcastle are patient at the back, and play through Arsenal with ease when they move it forward.

It takes two passes for them to find Wilson, who peels off Gabriel before spinning and shooting into Ramsdale's body.

A first real sign of encouragement.

7: WIDE! Burn promised Newcastle would go after Arsenal, and they have - but it's a dangerous game with the hosts' pace.

Saka has the ball on the half-way line with space to run, and switches to Martinelli on the left. He feeds Xhaka's run into the box and from a closing angle, he hits the side netting on the slide.

3: OVER! Against the tightest defence in the league Arsenal are already looking dangerous.

Xhaka has space in behind the Newcastle midfield to find Martinelli on the left, and from there the visitors are in danger.

One cross nearly falls for White and is won by Botman, but the ball is soon worked to Odegaard, who lifts it just over on the volley.
