Man Utd and sets sights on Arsenal takeover

The world’s eighth-richest man, Mukesh Ambani, is reportedly setting his sights on a deal to buy Arsenal amid recent links to Liverpool and Manchester United.

Both the north-west giants are up for sale and open to potential new investment as they look to keep pace with the game’s super-powers. The two clubs are currently run by Americans, with both having very different spells of success.

For United, the Florida-based Glazer family have proved wholly unpopular since their 2005 takeover. Buying the club for £790m, they are now reportedly seeking up to £9bn to relinquish control.

That potential sale has led to plenty of speculation as to whom will takeover. Indeed, super corporations Amazon and Apple are among those to be linked.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are in a much happier place despite claims FSG are looking to attract fresh investment. Their owners FSG – based in Boston – have overseen one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. And with Jurgen Klopp at the helm, they have reached an impressive three Champions League finals.

Contenders to buy into Liverpool have seemingly been less forthcoming. One name to emerge, though, is Indian businessman Ambani.

Per Forbes, Ambani is the world’s eighth-richest man, worth an astonishing £90bn, is one such name seemingly keen.

An associate of King Charles, Ambani is the man behind the Indian Premier League, one of the world’s most lucrative sports franchises. As the owner of Mumbai Indians, cricket is his first love. However, he also holds a strong interest in football with the Premier League one of the most watched sports in India.

Predictably, he is also reportedly looking into potentially acquiring Manchester United.

Mukesh Ambani wants to buy into Arsenal

However, per a report in The Athletic, Ambani would prefer to buy into Arsenal over Liverpool or Manchester United.

They write that Ambani’s son, Akash, is a massive supporter of Mikel Arteta’s side and that his father has been swayed by that interest.

The Gunners, currently owned by the Kroenke family, are not publicly for sale. However, contact may reportedly soon be made in a bid to buy them out.

That said, there has been interest in Arsenal before with the Kroenke family holding firm.

Arsenal are currently riding high at the top of the Premier League holding a five-point cushion on Manchester City. However, Arteta’s side will head into the resumption still second favourites for the title.

The Kroenke’s do plan to back Arteta to the tune of £50m in January to help make their title dreams a reality. But an investment or takeover from Ambani could push the club into the realm of the super-rich.

The 65-year-old Ambani lives in a private 27-storey home in Mumbai which requires 600 staff to function. It has three helipads, a 160-car garage and a cinema.

He also recently bought a beach-side villa on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. As per Bloomberg, that cost the Ambami family a whopping £67m.
