LIVE MATCH STREAM World Cup: Portugal 2 vs 0 Uruguay Group H

Full Time Portugal 2 vs 0 Uruguay

Bruno Fernandes scored twice to send Portugal through to the knockout stages from Group H with a game to spare after beating Uruguay 2-0.

Cristiano Ronaldo thought he had scored a second-half header although the striker did not get a touch to Fernandes' cross which ended up in the net.

GOAL! Portugal 2-0 Uruguay (Fernandes pen, 90+3)

With Ronaldo off the pitch, penalty duties are undertaken by the Man Utd man. No issues at all. Sends the goalkeeper the wrong way.

His second of the game, although this one is definitely his!

Portugal are in the last 16 with a game to spare.

90: PENALTY TO PORTUGAL!! Very unfortunate on Gimenez there. He slid in, the ball went under him and his outstretched arm blocked the ball just inside the area. He knew nothing about it.

75: OFF THE POST!! Gomes hits the frame of the goal! Great play from the subs. Pellistri creates havoc with a mazy run and slides one to Gomes on the edge of the box. He hits it early which catches the goalkeeper out but the ball bounces back off the post. Life in this game still.

Sky Sports’ Adam Bate:

“Suarez on. Pepe and his pals standing firm. The South American side will still need to beat Ghana even if they equalise but they will feel rather better about their chances if they have scored a goal in the tournament prior to that final match.”

71: This game is getting stretched. Ronaldo think he's fouled on the edge of the area up one end before Uruguay counter with their two subs. Pellistri sends in a good ball but Nunez doesn't anticipate it. Pepe clears.

66: Signs of life from Uruguay. A defeat wouldn't knock them out but even if they beat Ghana in the last game it might not be enough for qualification. A goal would put it in their hands.

"They gave the goal to Bruno here in the stadium. It did not look like Ronaldo got a touch on it despite his celebrations!"

58: CHANCE! Uruguay have to now come out and play a bit. Nunez runs down the channel and sends in a decent ball for Cavani to hit first time from 15 yards but it's a snatched effort. Wide it goes.

GOAL! Portugal 1-0 Uruguay (Ronaldo, 54)
OF COURSE! IT HAD TO BE HIM...

Portugal work the ball to Fernandes who wastes no time in looking for his former teammate. He gets the run on Godin but is being played onside by Varela. Once in front of goal he has the quality to head into the far corner.

You just can't keep him out of the headlines.

Portugal 0-0 Uruguay

HT: It's been bitty, scrappy and full of fouls. Just what we expected then. Portugal have had the ball, Uruguay have had the best chance. Bentancur's dazzling run sent him through one-on-one but his finish didn't match the scintillating approach play.

Portugal 0-0 Uruguay

44: YELLOW! The stop-start nature continues. Fernandes tries to take a quick free kick and Oliveira blatantly blocks it about two yards away.

Portugal 0-0 Uruguay

41: INJURY! Mendes has gone down and looks pretty devastated. He knows he can't go on. He is in tears as he walks off.

SUB! Guerriero is on.

Portugal 0-0 Uruguay

39: YELLOW! Varela skips inside about 30 yards out and Neves makes a cynical challenge. Into the book he goes. And Uruguay have a chance to load the box.

Nothing materialises from the subsequent delivery.

Portugal 0-0 Uruguay

38: CHANCE!! Cancelo drifts a clever ball to the back post where Ronaldo has peeled away. His first touch sets up the opportunity but he can't quite swing a leg at it to beat Rochet.

Portugal 0-0 Uruguay

Sky Sports’ Adam Bate:

“Bentancur is sauntering his way through this Portugal midfield at the moment. For all the possession of the opposition, Uruguay’s belief that they can keep them out and create at the other end seems justified."

Portugal 0-0 Uruguay

37: Uruguay look a threat when appearing in the final third. Bentancur sets another attack down the left but the final cross is skewed behind.

Fernando Santos makes three changes to the Portugal side that beat Ghana. In comes Pepe – yes, this should be fun – for his 130th cap. The old boy is 39 years and 275 days old.

William Carvalho is the other change.

Cavani in, Suarez replaced

The man who ended Portugal’s World Cup in 2018, Edinson Cavani, has been selected ahead of Luis Suarez to lead the Uruguay line. There’s a Liverpool and Manchester United feels to the other two changes with Guillermo Varela and Sebastian Coates also coming in – both formerly of the Premier League duo.
