Liverpool have been encouraged to go and sign West Ham United’s Declan Rice instead of Jude Bellingham next summer.
Bellingham has been heavily linked with a transfer to Anfield in recent months.
And in midweek, ESPN reported that Liverpool were favourites to secure his signature ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, as covered by HITC Sport
But the West Ham powerhouse has been among the Premier League’s finest midfielders for a number of years.
And Tony Cascarino has told talkSPORT [06/11, 6am] that going for Rice over Bellingham makes more sense for the Anfield outfit.
He said: “I think he’s a very assured player, a very complete player. So yes, I would have Rice over Bellingham, I think his consistency and the level he’s played at for a long time.
You can see Cascarino’s rationale but really, Bellingham is an absolute must for Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s midfield is already aging at an alarming rate and it needs new blood desperately.
And although Rice would certainly constitute a fresh option for Klopp, given that he’s still only 24, the 19-year-old could well be miles ahead of the West Ham midfielder by the time he reaches that age.
Bellingham is already captaining Borussia Dortmund in Champions League games and scoring on a regular basis in them.
He is a frightening talent and if it’s one or the other for Liverpool, it has to be him.
