Liverpool news: Declan Rice left feeling "sick" as Reds stars find Nunez agreement

Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, has proved just how crucial he remains to the Reds with his winner in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Man City and has since been labelled as their most important player

Liverpool snatched another 1-0 win with their defeat of West Ham on Wednesday to record successive victories in the Premier League ahead of Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

But even though Mohamed Salah didn’t score against the Hammers, he is still believed to be Liverpool’s main talisman and has had his importance highlighted as a result of his performance against Manchester City last weekend. Elsewhere, Declan Rice and Jurgen Klopp have given differing opinions following the midweek clash on Merseyside.

Salah still Liverpool’s talisman

Forward Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that Salah is still the main goal threat for the Reds and is the one player he looks to when Klopp’s side need a goal.

Salah proved just how influential he can be for Liverpool after scoring the winner against Man City last Sunday and Owen backs the Egyptian to still be Liverpool’s top scorer this season, while he is “definitely still the one person” to produce a goal for the Reds.

Speaking to Mirror Football , courtesy of aceodds.com, he said: "Well, I think if you ask anybody, any Liverpool fan, to predict who will be Liverpool's top scorer by the end of the season, I'd be very surprised if many said anyone other than Mo Salah.”

Rice left feeling ‘sick’ after Liverpool defeat

West Ham midfielder Rice admitted that he was left feeling ‘sick’ after his side came away from Wednesday’s clash with Liverpool emptyhanded.

The Hammers made a good account of themselves at Anfield but just couldn’t find a way through the Reds’ defence after squandering a number of goalscoring opportunities, leaving Rice to wonder what may have been on a different night. Following the game, he said: "I feel sick, I honestly feel sick.

“We know it's a tough place to come, you have to show grit, heart and desire. There was enough in the second half to nick something from the game. We are showing signs we can compete with the big boys.”

Liverpool players in agreement over Nunez

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker and defender Virgil Van Dijk believe that the reason behind Darwin Nunez’s ‘slow’ start to life at Anfield is down to settling into a new country.

The Uruguayan had spent the past two years in Portugal with Benfica prior to his summer move to England with the Reds, and Van Dijk and Alisson both believe that it is learning English which has been one of the key components behind Nunez’s disrupted start.

Alisson said: “We’re helping him a lot, we keep him really close. He’s a really good lad, I know it’s not easy, really difficult to settle into a different country. When I come here, I knew a little bit more English than him, he’s learning, working hard on that, not only on the pitch but to learn English.”
