Thierry Henry has praised Arsenal transfer target Leroy Sane and stated that he can reach the levels of Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery after his performance in the Champions League on Tuesday night,
Bayern Munich secured a 2-0 win over Barcelona at the Allianz Arena, with Sane getting on the scoresheet for Julian Nagelsmann’s side in a fast-paced and highly-entertaining affair between two forward-thinking teams.
Many felt that the German international didn’t hit the heights, for the talents he has at his feet, at the Etihad, but he is starting to showcase his worth now.
Henry spoke about the player’s previous problems in front of goal and how he is now starting to have that ‘killer instinct’ that Robben and Ribery had in abudunce.
What I like about his goal is, when he gets the ball from Musiala, the way he accelerated and he didn’t stop. Sometimes, his composure in front of the goal, he keeps the same pace throughout the whole opportunity.
“But (against Barcelona), he gets the ball and accelerates, then you need to slow down a tiny bit, yet it wasn’t the best finish, but he slowed down a tiny bit to finish and, at times, he doesn’t always finish well. When he starts doing that, then he will be up there with the best in Europe.
On Sane being able to get to Ribery and Robben levels: “Yes, and that killer instinct. Ribery was a killer. Arjen Robben, he was there to hurt you. At times, Sane would play, and he would play for the sake of playing. You have to want to put up numbers and kill the defender. I see that in his eyes now.
“He’s not the same young kid that was at Manchester City. I think he understood something, but he needs to carry on like that. He needs to learn how to kill and he’s doing that right now.”
“If he starts to score goals, which makes a difference right, if you see and talk about the chances Bayern Munich had in those games, a lot of the times it was Sane, but he didn’t finish it,” said Henry.
ARSENAL’S INTEREST IN SANE
Arteta is looking for another player to elevate his forward line, especially on that right-hand side with Bukayo Saka the only regular.
If they want to lure a player like Sane to north London, then they probably need Champions League football and to put some serious money on the table.
Some would point towards Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko as two players Arteta was able to lure from a Champions League club.
Added with that, his past relationship with the duo helped in their captures and Arsenal fans will be hoping the same happens with Sane because he would seriously take their forward line to the next level.
