It was a busy summer transfer window at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta welcomed five new signings to the red half of north London and so far that business has paid off.

Arsenal sit top of the Premier League table, after winning their opening five games on the bounce. That run was curtailed by Manchester United on Sunday, but the Gunners remain a point ahead of nearest challengers Manchester City and Tottenham.

Matt Turner, Gabriel Jesus, Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Oleksandr Zinchenko joined the Gunners this summer, with two of those players playing a key role already this season. Arteta teamed up with Zinchenko and Jesus once more, having worked with them when he was Pep Guardiola's assistant manager at City.

And in signing those two players, Arteta helped City create Premier League history. City themselves were busy in the transfer market, bringing in Erling Haaland and Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund, Kalvin Phillips and Sergio Gomez.

But it was the outgoing expenditure that created history. As well as Jesus and Zinchenko leaving for Arsenal, the Citizens also let 10 other players leave the club this summer. Raheem Sterling made the move to Chelsea, while a host of young players were allowed to leave Manchester.

City recouped a whopping £193million from the outgoing transfers, which is the most any club has received in a summer transfer window ever. Chelsea had previously held the record in 2017, but that £165million pales in comparison to City's business.
