Arsenal fail with Douglas Luiz pursuit as Aston Villa reject THREE deadline day offers from Gunners for Brazilian midfielder

Arsenal saw three deadline day bids rejected by Aston Villa for Douglas Luiz.

The Villa midfielder was targeted for a late switch to the Gunners, having previously attracted interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid this summer.

Luiz was desperate to join Arsenal, but it looks like that deal won’t be happening

The 24-year-old Brazilian has spent the last three years at Villa Park after leaving Manchester City. He’s in the final year of his contract at the club.

Arsenal submitted a £20million bid for the player early on deadline day, however that was rejected by the Villans, before they went back in with a £23million offer.

That was rejected too and talkSPORT understands Arsenal then submitted a THIRD offer of the day in the evening, worth £25m, but Villa turned that down as well.

Despite this deadline day setback it’s been a very productive transfer window for Arsenal, who have made five signings over the summer, including Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus.

There were also two outgoings for Arsenal on deadline day, as Ainsley Maitland-Niles joined Southampton on a season-long loan and Hector Bellerin returned to Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Villa have made seven signings in this window, including acquiring Leander Dendoncker from Wolves and Jan Bednarek from Southampon on deadline day.

Luiz scored against Arsenal on Wednesday night, netting directly from a corner in Villa’s 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, and Mikel Arteta hoped he would be the man to ease his midfield concerns.

Arteta is without Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny due to injury ahead of this weekend’s trip to Manchester United.
