Manchester United transfer news LIVE Marko Arnautovic bid latest as Man Utd 'work' on Adrien Rabiot Keep tabs on the latest news, views and Man Utd transfer rumours LIVE :

Manchester United continue to pursue Barcelona playmaker Frenkie de Jong, while another surprising target has emerged on the radar for Erik ten Hag this summer.

Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez were handed Premier League debuts for the club against Brighton on Sunday afternoon as United slipped to a 2-1 defeat in that frustrating curtain raiser. Pascal Gross struck twice for the Seagulls as United momentarily hit back with an own goal.

It underlined the need for Ten Hag to strengthen further this month and the De Jong saga rumbles on. Cristiano Ronaldo's future also remains unclear.

Shortly after Brighton had walked away from Old Trafford with three points, interest in veteran Austrian star Marko Arnautovic came to the fore. It was a revelation that raised eyebrows on social media and beyond as United eye up attack-minded recruits before the window shuts.

United 'working' on Adrien Rabiot deal

Have United finally found a midfielder to sign this summer?

The Athletic says United are working on a deal to recruit Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot before the end of the summer window.

Rabiot, 27, is into the final 12 months of his contract at Juventus and has emerged as a leading option for Erik ten Hag’s squad as they look to reinforce their midfield options.

Arnautovic agent addresses United bid

Marko Arnautovic’s brother and agent, Danijel, has confirmed United’s interest in the striker.

Danijel told Austrian newspaper Kurier, “It is true that there is an offer from a well-known club.”

“‘I’m in contact with Bologna to see if that can be realised.”

United stance on Sesko amid Arnautovic interest

The news of United's interest in signing Marko Arnautovic might leave the club open to ridicule, but he is not the only forward they are after this summer.

United are still interested in a deal to sign Red Bull Salzburg forward Benjamin Sesko who is viewed as a long-term solution to their current issues.

Why United are open to signing Arnautovic

It is understood United view Arnautovic as a pragmatic, short-term option to support the starting forwards and an ideal character for a dressing room still struggling for self-belief after last season.

Ten Hag believes United have a plethora of technical and quick left-sided players who are not particularly physical or adept at playing with their back to goal.

United are considering recruiting Arnautovic so Ten Hag has an alternative option who can help the team grind out wins. Arnautovic is seen as a potential game-changer off the bench.

Ten Hag addresses Arnautovic swoop

United have bid €8million for Bologna and Austria forward Marko Arnautovic.

Erik ten Hag was pressed on the target during his press conference. However, the United manager refused to be drawn on emerging reports on Sunday afternoon.

I don't go into names because I think in this pre-season 250 players are involved or linked with Manchester United, so that's it. We have two strikers, maybe a third one, with Rashford as well.
