Cody Gakpo to Arsenal transfer: Man United twist, £68m bid impact, Liverpool admission

Everton threat

Frank Lampard has sent scouts to watch PSV winger Cody Gakpo over a potential move to Everton this summer, according to a report from the Sun. The Toffees are eyeing a forward replacement for Richarlison - who was a key player in their survival last season - with the Brazilian making the switch to Tottenham.

Man Utd alternative

Manchester United have a move for Cody Gakpo lined up as an alternative to Ajax winger Antony, according to the Athletic. The report claims that an €80million (£68million) offer for the Brazilian was turned down, meaning they could turn their attention to Gakpo.

The Gunners continue to be linked with a move for the Netherlands international as they continue their focus on outgoings before incomings.

Gakpo fresh verdict

Speaking to ESPN after PSV's first leg 1-1 draw against Monaco, Gakpo said: "We must first focus on [the second leg against Monaco] and try to make it to the Champions League, then it is more likely that I will stay. I don't think I have said anywhere that I am leaving, so there is definitely a chance that I will stay."

Now that PSV have advanced into the final play-off round, the chances Gakpo leaves the Dutch outfit this summer are getting increasingly unlikely.

Man Utd advantage

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Arsenal and Manchester United's pursuit of Gakpo in his latest

"Cody Gakpo is a player on the Manchester United list, but PSV Eindhoven have not yet received an official offer. They're expecting that step to understand if Man United will want to get serious for Gakpo," Romano explained.

Romano went on to reveal that United hold a potential advantage over the Gunners in the race to sign the 23-year-old, with the Dutch starlet having the same agent as Erik ten Hag.

"Certainly, the player is attracted to the Premier League and has the same agency as Erik ten Hag," Romano added. "The United manager knows him from his time in the Eredivisie and has been an admirer of the player for a long time."

Man Utd enter race

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wants to add Dutch footballer of the Year, Cody Gakpo, to his squad for the 2022/23 season, as per The Mirror.

Gakpo has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, but now Arsenal could face competition for the talented winger's signature.

Price tag

PSV have set a transfer price of €40million-€45million (£34million-£38million) for Gakpo to leave the club this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Eredivisie side are said to be keen to keep hold of the 23-year-old, with four years remaining on his deal at the club.

Liverpool and Arsenal admission

Speaking to the Sun back in April, Gakpo was honest in his admiration for English football, making clear claims about Arsenal and Liverpool. He said: "The Premier League is a big league. Virgil van Dijk plays there with Liverpool, so I like to watch them.

"We are not the same kind of league, but I think we try to look at the Prem and learn about it. Everybody wants to play one time in the Prem. I don't favour one team, but I like Arsenal a lot.

"I looked up to Henry when I was younger because he was a tall guy who played on the wing."

Premier League ambition
understands that Gakpo is keen to one day play in the Premier League. However, his current priority is making the Netherlands' squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Gakpo has previously discussed his admiration for Gunners' hero Thierry Henry as well as his interest in Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsenal interest

Arsenal are one of several Premier League clubs interested in PSV winger Cody Gakpo, understands. The 23-year-old can play anywhere across the front three, playing a hand with 25 goal involvements in 27 league appearances and earning a first Netherlands call-up last year
