Man Utd rejoin Arsenal in £59m Sergej Milinkovic-Savic transfer race after Frenkie de Jong blow

Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with a move to both Arsenal and Manchester United this summer

Manchester United have rejoined Arsenal in the race for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer, according to reports. football.london understands that the Gunners have a central midfielder is high on the list of transfer targets in the remaining weeks of the window.

It comes as Mikel Arteta has already looked to bolster his squad since the opening of the window. Five signings have already been made in the transfer market, with over £100million spent so far.

Discussing the potential of more signings, the Spaniard told reporters: "We are where we are. Obviously, at the moment we have injuries, you can see that we are still a little bit short in some positions for the way that we want to play but it is something that we are trying to address. We have increased the quality of the team for sure and the level of the squad is obviously something that we want to keep raising."

The attacking, defensive and goalkeeping ranks have all been bolstered, but options in the midfield could still be added to. Plenty of players have been linked to solve this issue, including Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 27-year-old is said to be free to leave the Serie A side this summer, with two-years remaining on his contract with the club. However, the Gunners appear to have company in the race to sign the Serbia international. That's because Calciomercato report that Manchester United have revived their interest in the midfielder as they look to improve their side under new manager Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils had agreed a fee with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong, however his reluctance to move to Old Trafford has seen any sort of deal stalled.

The report claims Milinkovic-Savic is viewed as an alternative to the Netherlands international, with £59million enough to land him. Chelsea have also previously been linked with a move, adding a potential third party to the race.

It could complicate any deal the Gunners may view, with the days slowly ticking by in the transfer window.
