CONFIRMED – Joe Gomez signs new long-term contract with Liverpool FC

Joe Gomez has ended speculation over his future at Liverpool by putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract, becoming the third extension this summer.

Gomez and his representatives entered talks with the club upon the resumption of training for pre-season on Monday, and the two parties saw swift progress

That has led to the 25-year-old agreeing a new five-year deal that will keep him at Anfield beyond his 30th birthday in 2027.

Liverpool had already handed Mohamed Salah and James Milner new contracts this summer, with Gomez unlikely to be the last to extend his terms either.

The announcement of Gomez’s deal comes following speculation over a possible exit, with Aston Villa and Newcastle among the clubs linked.

Now he can renew his challenge for a first-choice starting place in Jurgen Klopp‘s defence, with Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip also vying for a regular spot alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Gomez has already been with the Reds for seven seasons, having arrived as an 18-year-old from Charlton in 2015, and he is now due to stay for over a decade.

Though injuries have blighted his time on Merseyside, the England defender has already made 142 appearances for the club, excelling at both centre-back and right-back.

Klopp is expected to hand his No. 12 further opportunities in the coming campaign, with a strong core of centre-halves in place.

Signed for only £3.5 million, Gomez stands as one of the best bargain signings in Liverpool’s recent history, and there remains considerable scope for him to develop further.
